High summer is upon us, the days are long, the sun is bright, and the heat is HOT!!! It's 110% humidity every night it feels like, and no matter how hard you're blasting the AC, it's still getting muggy upstairs in your house or beach rental. It's even more stressful when there's a baby involved! Those 2 AM wakeup calls from a sweaty, overheated baby are tough, heat rash is real, and overheating can be a serious concern!

What if I told you that there's one easy, very simple solution to solving your summer sleep stresses? It's true! The secret to success here isn't blasting freezing cold AC all night long, it's all about what your baby wears to bed!

The Fabric Rule

The number one trick in our arsenal for comfortable summer sleeping is to pick out the right fabric! Loads of big box brands create baby clothes and PJs with heavyweight cotton and uncomfortable synthetic blends that trap heat. Synthetic materials like polyester are petroleum-based and lack breathability. The weave of the fabric blocks airflow and retains all the heat, so you're basically putting your baby in a greenhouse.

You need to dress your little one in something natural and lightweight! Linen, cotton, and bamboo fabrics are way more breathable and actively pull heat away from your baby, helping them stay cool all night long.

Simply being intentional about the fabrics you choose can make a major difference when it comes to your baby sleeping soundly!

The Kyte Baby Miracle

One of our favorite baby sleepwear brands at Wrightsville Ave is Kyte Baby! These baby PJs are super soft and cool to the touch, so your baby's sensitive skin can breathe easy. The buttery-soft fabric is the perfect way to soothe your baby's skin after a long, hot day at the beach.

What makes Kyte Baby so great? It's all in the fabric! These pajamas are made of 100% bamboo rayon. Bamboo is a natural material, and the fibers contain micro-gaps which allow an ease of airflow, so these PJs keep babies cool in the summer, and warm in the winter.

Bamboo also beats cotton as a moisture-wicking fabric! This keeps your baby's sweat, tears, and drool away from their sensitive skin, and helps prevent chafing and heat rash. The super smooth, non-irritating fabric also makes Kyte Baby pajamas an amazing pick, especially if your baby struggles with dry skin or eczema. There's also a natural stretch to the fabric, so it'll move with your wiggling baby and stay comfortable as they grow!

The AC Draft Solution

There's always the possibility of your baby going from overheated to way too cold, which can lead to even bigger meltdowns. Whether it's because the ceiling fan is set too high, or the loud AC vent is blowing air right in their face doesn't matter--the point is, the baby can't sleep, and if the baby can't sleep, then neither can you!

The AC is too much, but you can't put a blanket on the baby, otherwise they'll get hot and sweaty all over again. Our solution? A premium lightweight swaddle from Quincy Mae. We carry a wide variety of bamboo swaddles and bamboo/cotton blend baby blankets that are perfect for beating the heat without shivering to death in the AC!

The soft fabrics in the swaddle provide that perfectly snug and cozy feeling that babies love, while the open weave prevents heat trapping. These are way better than the average baby swaddle and have plenty of different uses. On top of being a baby blanket, a beach towel to keep the sand off your baby, or even a stroller cover to keep the sun off your baby's skin!
